I took the Intro to Sewing Part 2 more than a year after taking the Part 1. Lissa made it to so easy to pick up where I left off in terms of skill and comfort with sewing. I learned so much and we accomplished so much in only 4 sessions. I’m excited to keep learning on my own but it’s great to have a space like this to come back to.

My daughter loved every minute of this high quality creative workshop! Over the course of the program, she learned so much—everything from working with designing the fabric pattens and exploring textiles, building mood boards and branding and ultimately bringing it all together into her own final unique wearable dress!

What really stood out was how engaged and excited she was the entire time. Every week, she looked forward to this class and would come home bursting with stories about what she learned and created. It clearly sparked both her creativity and confidence.

Seeing her go from an idea to a finished garment was truly amazing. She was so inspired by her new sewing skills that all she wanted for Christmas was a real sewing machine!

This class not only teaches valuable skills but also inspires kids to express themselves in such a meaningful self expressing way. I highly recommend it to any young person interested in fashion, design, or creativity.

My daughter describes this class as a place where your dreams come to life. From creating a mood board, to designing fabrics with 3D printing, to learning how to sew her own dress, she’s been fully immersed in the whole process. Seeing her proudly wear to school what she created has been incredibly special.

One of the highlights is the fashion show at the end, where all the young designers present their work to the parents. It’s amazing to see how much effort, creativity, and confidence they’ve built along the way.

It’s not just a class, it’s a full creative experience, so good that she chose to do it two years in a row.

My 9 year old daughter fell in love with this class immediately and has made several outfits so far. It is expensive, but it’s well worth the price to have a one-of-a-kind piece at the end of each session and to see her confidence and friendships grow among the lovely teachers and fellow designers. Rob and Lissa are extremely supportive of the students. I appreciate their encouragement and see my daughter really flourishing in the classes. Siena says, “It’s really fun and creative and I love it so much!” We’re big fans obviously. I’ve just signed up for another series (I believe it’s the 4th) and for the Parent/Child class.

I went from never using a sewing machine to becoming fully addicted to quilting just from taking this one series. Dona is such a wonderful and supportive teacher. She makes it easy and fun. I always look forward to my quilting class in the week.

I’ve taken several of the quilting classes but which I’ve loved. I hadn’t tackled doing curves yet and I was a little intimidated. The instruction was so clear and amazing and supportive that by the end I felt I could’ve jumped into curves as my very first quilting class. Now it’s inspired me to work towards my first quilt project with curves. Looking forward to the next one!

I had so much fun taking the bikini class with Rose! Not only was she an excellent, kind and patient instructor, but she also taught me some great new skills! Every class I have taken at Moving Thread (two with Lissa and now this class with Rose) has been wonderful so far!

Loved the Intro to Sewing course! I had just about given up on the idea, that I could learn how to sew. Lissa is so kind, helpful and knowledgeable. The class was really fun! It was wonderful to walk away with three pieces that I can say I sewed! Thank you for the lovely experience!

I so enjoyed this class we made a different skill building block each week. I learned so much from Dona about how to get my block points perfect! Really fun class!

I highly recommend taking a quilting block class from Dona McKenzie. Dona has the gift of making sure every student is successful regardless of their level. She is a passionate teacher!! In the last 4 week class of blocks, we are all so happy to have found Dona McKenzie at Moving Thread LA. There is no other class like this in all of Los Angeles!!

I've discovered that the key to successful adulting is to set yourself up so you always have *something* to look forward to. This intro workshop was That Thing for me in October '25. I'd never touched a sewing machine before and was getting annoyed by how much I was spending to get my pants hemmed (I'm 5'1"). My husband and I enrolled in Caitriona's weeknight sessions, and it was SO MUCH FUN. We finished a reversible tote with a pocket in session one, right off the bat. Session two was a lined (!) ZIPPERED (!!) pouch, which is currently keeping the contents of my oversized bag organized. And then, for sessions 3&4 -- AN ACTUAL PAIR OF PANTS! In my size! With pockets!! Are you kidding me? I could go on and on about how great and satisfying this class was, but in short, 10/10, A++, would enroll again.

Both instructors made the directions so understandable even though I was a beginner, and I had never used a serger before or worked with stretch fabrics. I completed two projects from the two workshops and they both turned out so cute! The studio is very well-equipped and the experiences were both amazing. Highly recommended!

Took beginner series 1 & 2 with Lissa. She is amazing and learned so much! I've continued sewing on my own with what she taught me. An added bonus was meeting a great group of woman.
