You’ve learnt the basics of sewing, now you want to understand the process of working from a pattern, cutting your fabric and sewing a garment from beginning to end.
This series of classes will give you the tools, understanding and confidence to start working from independent pdf patterns at home.
We will meet for 3 sessions of 3 hours each:
Class#1: Trace your shirt size from the master pattern. Pattern pieces include front, back, facing, collar and pocket. You will have the opportunity to increase or decrease length of the body and/or the sleeves based on your personal preferences. You’ll mark pocket and button placement, grainlines, notches, seam allowances etc. We’ll cut interfacing and test button holes.
Class#2: Bring your fabric (pre-washed). Proper fabric layout will be addressed in terms of following the correct grainline. Interfacing will be ironed on and we’ll get started on assembling your shirt.
Class#3: Sew and complete your shirt! Depending on your fabric choice, you may use French seams or finish with an overlocker. We’ll address topstitching vs understitching, stitch in the ditch, slits and double rolled hems.
Fabrics needed will be discussed in Class#1.
